1. Preparing Your Artwork for Print – Printox Guidelines
At Printox, we want to ensure your prints come out perfectly. To help with that, we highly recommend using our downloadable templates and guides, available in the Templates section of our website. Before exporting your design to PDF, make sure to delete any template layers.
2. File Formats We Accept
Already have a design? No problem. While we prefer print-ready PDF files, we also accept:
● JPEG
● PNG
● EPS
For photos: Use high-resolution JPEGs (preferably without compression).
For graphics/text: Use vector-based, print-ready PDFs.
For mixed content: Print-ready PDFs give the best results.
3. Colour Mode: CMYK (FOGRA39)
Always prepare your files using CMYK colour mode not RGB. Use the FOGRA39 (ISO Coated v2) colour profile for best print accuracy. Not sure about your file's colour mode? We can convert it for you, though this may cause slight colour variations.
4. Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI
Ensure that all images and graphics are at least 300 dpi for crisp, high-quality output.
5. Bleed and Safety Margins
To accommodate cutting tolerances:
● Add a 3 mm bleed on all sides of your design.
● Keep all important content at least 4 mm inside the edge or fold lines.
● Avoid borders or frames on small items, as they may appear uneven.
6. Fonts should be at least 6 pt.
Minimum font size: 6 pt
● All fonts must be outlined or embedded
● For small black text, use 100% black only
● Note: We do not proofread for spelling or grammar errors.
7. Line Thickness
● Lines must be at least 0.25 pt
● Negative (white) lines should be at least 0.5 pt
8. Overprint Settings
Ensure no elements are unintentionally set to overprint. This can cause unexpected results. Only use overprint if you're familiar with its effects.
9. Ink Coverage
● Maximum ink coverage should not exceed 300%.
● For colour images, convert to CMYK with a 260% ink limit.
10. Avoid Thin Borders
Due to trimming tolerances, we recommend avoiding borders smaller than 20 mm on designs smaller than A4. Thin borders may appear off-centre after cutting.
